Die Nachteile von Slow Fashion, die du kennen solltest - by Aylin Koenig

The disadvantages of slow fashion that you should know

You may have already looked into sustainable fashion and come across the term "disadvantages of slow fashion." Slow fashion sounds appealing because it promises fair working conditions, high-quality materials, and durability. But as with any concept, there are points you should be aware of before you completely transform your wardrobe around it.

Note the higher prices.

Slow fashion items are usually made from better materials and produced under fair conditions. This pays off in the long run, but it puts a significant strain on your budget at the time of purchase. If you're currently trying to keep your costs down, a higher purchase price can quickly dampen your enthusiasm.

  • Plan your budget before shopping so you don't regret it later.
  • Consider whether you would rather buy one more expensive item that will last for years, instead of several cheap versions.

Expect delivery delays.

With slow fashion, everything often takes a little longer, which is no wonder when products aren't mass-produced in large factories. Waiting times of several weeks or even months can make you impatient, especially if you prefer spontaneous purchases.

  • When buying online, ask about realistic delivery times.
  • Plan your seasonal items in advance so you don't have to wait for your warm jacket in the middle of winter.

Be aware of the limited selection.

Slow fashion brands often focus on smaller collections with timeless designs. While this helps you choose your look more consciously, you might not immediately find what you're looking for. The selection is sometimes limited, especially for unusual trends or specific sizes.

  • Look at classic basics that you can combine with different outfits.
  • Be flexible with your color palette, as slow fashion labels tend to favor neutral shades.

Question the transparency of the brands

Slow fashion stands for openness in the supply chain and fair working conditions. However, not every brand is equally transparent. Some labels use the word "sustainable" without providing detailed information. It's up to you to take a closer look.

  • Read the production information or contact customer service.
  • Check if the company displays seals of approval or can provide credible certifications.

Draw your own conclusion

Ultimately, you decide whether the potential drawbacks are worth the effort. Do you want to consume more consciously and are you prepared to invest more money and patience? Or are you simply looking for a quick, inexpensive solution for your everyday life? Slow fashion requires some time and research, but it can be worthwhile if you want comfortable clothing that you fully believe in.

Consider which factors are most important to you personally. If quality and fair trade in clothing are very important to you, slow fashion might still be the better choice. On the other hand, if you often want to keep up with the latest trends, it can occasionally seem exhausting and expensive. That's perfectly normal, so take your time to weigh your priorities.
